Don't Hide Your Light

by Allison Rish-Salazar

I spent so many years afraid, and I hid my light. What do I mean by that? I have been afraid to share about Jesus more than just when it felt convenient. I went through seasons of feeling brave. And then I would go through some struggles and feel like I wasn't worthy enough to share about God. I have been writing/blogging on and off for 10 years, but I really slowed down in my writing when I went through my divorce and the loss of my stepdaughter (she died of a drug overdose). But also, if I’m being honest, I cared too much about what others thought about me instead of what God says about me.

When Charlie Kirk passed away in 2025, God spoke to my heart. I was visiting my family in Ohio the day he was murdered. The next morning after he died, I was driving home listening to worship music and God assured me in my heart that Charlie was in Heaven and that Charlie had died for Christ. I was sobbing and I could barely drive, but God had a point to get across to me. God wanted to make it very clear to me what my job was going forward. This is it: Charlie actually died for Christ. He was so Christlike that he died for Jesus just like Jesus died for us. It made such an impact on me as it did many others worldwide that I decided I could no longer stand aside and not share my faith in a bold way.

After all it's not about me, it's about God and others. He calls on us to share our faith, so that others will hear God’s word and testimony. If you read Matthew 5:14-16 NIV, it is clear what God asks us to do with our faith. It is easier said than done sometimes though. I understand one hundred percent why people don’t like to share their faith. It can be very uncomfortable…I have been there too.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

In Matthew 28:19-20 NIV, God also tells us to go and make disciples throughout the world. We can’t do that very well if we are not willing to share our faith. We have to be brave and courageous. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

So, remember who you are and whom you belong to. God is with you always! You can trust Him. Be brave and share your joy and light with others. Get in a good Bible-based church where you feel welcomed and at home. Some days you might just share a much-needed smile with someone. Other days, you might share a full testimony of how God has changed you and your life. Let God convict your heart and let Him lead the way.

Forever In Christ,
Allison
